Wedding purpose in Islam

Islam is advocate of marriage and Islam does not allow celibacy which persists in other religions instead wedding purpose is enlighten in Islam. Wedding purpose is to keep calm in society. Our Holy Prophet ﷺ performed this act in His life and advice His Ummah to do so and also many hadith on is purpose.

“There is no celibacy in Islam.Marriage is a religious duty and is consequently a moral safeguard as well as a social necessity. Islam does not equal celibacy with high “taqwa/Iman”.

The prophet has also said,

“Marriage is my tradition who so ever keeps away there from is not from amongst me”. [Narrated by Ibn-e-Majah]

Wedding Purpose:

Purpose of wedding is to provide fulfillment of all desires but in poise manner and it help someone from not becoming slave to one’s own desire. Another wedding purpose is it is a need of society and Islam does not impose us that we wed compulsory but it clearly through light on its importance and stress upon it’s significance and purpose. Wedding also serve the purpose of leading to create a harmony in a society and establish a family system which keeps society in a balance.

Role of family:

Family is the fundamental unit for the survival or society which is basic purpose of wedding and it is a halal way and best solution for the two person’s relationship. Islam impulses to control emotion and let not allow us to became slave of them so that we remain dignified and wedding purpose is to fulfill our desire by retaining our dignity. Quran says about wedding purpose

They are a garment for you and you are a garment to them … [Quran 2:187]

Among His signs is [the fact] that He has created spouses for you among yourselves so that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has planted love and mercy between you; In that are signs for people who reflect. [Quran 20:30]

Quran has used the word “Zawj” in refers to marriage which means mate or partner to share happiness, sorrows, and love and procreate children and this small world is explanation of marriage purpose. Wedding is the way for getting spiritual, emotional and psychological peace through love and harmony. In Quran Allah says about the companion he has made for everyone.

“And those who guard their chastity, Except with their wives and whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed. But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors.” (70:29-31)
