All religions and all societies have given parents an honorable status. Behave well towards your father and mother and consider this good conduct as a propitious act which will earn Allah’s grace in this world as well as in the next. After Allah, man owes the greatest obligation to his parents. The greatness and value of this obligation towards one’s parents may be realized from the fact that the Holy Quran at several points mentions the rights of parents and the rights of ALLAH simultaneously at one place.

“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honor.” (Quran 17:23)

To maintain any social relationship, both parties must have some clear cut rights as well as obligations. Parent child relationship is mutual. The children have the greatest obligation towards their parents. Children should be kind and humble with their parents. Parents have a right to be respected and obeyed by children. It is the obligation of children to obey their orders and act accordingly.

Care for Parents:

Parents have looked after the children for decades, so it is the obligation of grown up children to repay them by way of caring for them and looking to their physical and financial needs.
Quranic verses say:

“People ask you (O Prophet) how they should spend. Say, ‘whatever you spend should be spent on Allah (in good cause), on parents, near relatives, on orphans, destitute and travelers (who fall short of money in foreign lands)”.

As parents grow old and their energies go towards decline. So it is the obligation of children to help their parents in any house hold chore in which they can help. Sons can help in lifting heavy things and daughters can help in mother’s household work.
Abu Hurairah always encouraged other people to be kind and good to their parents.

Respect your Parents:

One day he saw two men walking together and inquired of the younger one, “who is this man to you?” to which the young man replied, “He is my father”.

Abu Hurairah advised him by saying:

“Do not call your father by his name, do not walk in front of him, and do not seat yourself before he does”.

Children must perform great obligation towards their parents, they must obeying them and treating them with kindness which are the teachings of Islam.
